A cut of my thoughts along with a shot of feelings

 While making this video, the main thing I wanted to make sure of was that it followed the beat of the music. This was one of the most common trends in music videos and I don't feel like it would make sense to break this trend. Breaking this trend would just cause the video to feel somewhat choppy at moments with transitions randomly placed willy-nilly. Due to the nature of the song, I feel that the story that I ultimately came up with does not totally fit with the song. I feel like it would have been a better choice now to pick a different song. I guess that this could represent how some problems are caused by doing something in an area that doesn't really fit the situation. But overall, as a music video, I feel that it did well in terms of the basics of a music video.  When it comes to the audience, this video does not really address them directly. The reason for this was that it was not really needed for this situation. I do know some music videos might address the audience...

The fruits of my effort!

 Well... Here it is... Was a bit of a ride but overall it came out pretty alright if I say so myself. Ended up cutting a good amount of stuff post-processing. Another thing in the bag. The hatchet is buried and my mind remains positive. So without further ado. Here is my music video for Feels Like Summer  featuring the one and only... ME!

*Snip snip snip snip* (Do sound effects get the meaning across?)

 So the editing was interesting. It mostly consisted of more cutting than I would want to deal with. Some, honestly all, of the clips, had to be trimmed down. This was the majority of what I have been doing. Even though I was mainly trimming shots, I was able to find some moments where I could have some fun. The shots to be honest took way more time to trim and edit because I wanted the shots to match with the music so it was imperative that I make sure to properly cut the shots. When I got the music that I was going to use I had to cut it to match the required length of the entire video. But, I couldn't do it at the start because I didn't know how much the film would take. So most of the editing consisted of getting the actual film to go by as smoothly as possible. While at the same time cutting out as much as possible to shorten the length to one minute. Overall the process was similar to the others but this time I had more chances to mess with transitions. Davinci Resolve ha...

Filming (hopefully) done! At Last!

Image
Today's blog is about finishing the rest of the shots that were not finished on a previous filming day. So after the previous filming, I rested for a bit because it was getting a bit exhausting going back and forth to get the film. So this blog is about filming after resting. After about a day (or two) I then went on to finish the last couple of scenes. I decided to change the scene of the flashback. Instead of talking to someone I decided to make it a call and include the hand swinging down to a blurry view of the phone. By doing that I saved the time of trying to find someone else to try and get the shot. I wouldn't want to bother someone else with the tedious task of re-recording the action of standing in one place. So after deciding on that change I set up the camera to record me lifting the phone to my head and acting as if I was talking on it. And after that, I had to try and record a close-up of the phone going down but I didn't want to just separate the clip and zoo...

Filming with peak professional equipment! (To me at least...)

Image
 Well by this time I (and I hope others as well) enjoyed a good meal with my family and for me got around to filming a couple of sections of the music video. So overall for filming I wanted shots to be as still as possible to get the shots the way I want them for when I edit it together. And for this, I made use of the tool that I created for my previous project. But overall, it is possible to see the small cuts from each of the moments which makes it look shakey. So! I purchased a tripod which let put my phone (video taking tool of choice as of this time) in one spot to take a shot or multiple in an orientation I need which makes some things easier. So with it, I was able to get some of the shots I needed (and dropped the drone idea) and it was actually kinda fun to bring it around and just put it down in places. While filming each time I take a shot I have to run back and make sure that the results were satisfactory. This became a bit of a bother but regardless I recorded the sce...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
 Now for my storyboard, the average length of each scene would take around 5 seconds each to come together to make 12 pictures and descriptions to encompass the plan shown by the storyboard. Scene 1 In this scene, it starts out with a mid-shot with several many short shots of the actor getting out of bed. In this shot, the camera mustn't move so it will be recorded as one long shot and cut into shots less than 5 seconds. This sequence will go in time with the music that will be playing. This will come up to about 12 shots being used in the first 5 or so seconds and then a while also being a short shot it would be much longer and have a pan to a door exiting the room. I feel like including an easter egg or something like that in it as something random to give a light and funny feeling in the beginning. Scene 2 The second shot would also be a wide shot that is composed of multiple clips. In these shots, it will show a different part of the same room but in these shots, it will be the...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
 Now for the plan for this music video to be recorded for the assignment  ages! The song that I planned on using which was mentioned previously is Feels Like Summer  by Childish Gambino . The genre for this song is R&B/Soul so the overall tone feels chill and relaxing. The main part of the story that I'm planning to make is to have something to do with traveling. This idea came from the original music video as it was mainly composed of an animated Childish Gambino walking down a long path all the way to his home while showing parts of other people's lives throughout the video. For my video, however, while it may have traveled the overall story will be different from the original. The props would include a way to cause a need for travel so it could be a letter or text/call on the phone. Since it's traveling another thing needed would be the outside (I guess?). A starting and ending location is also needed. There will also need to be reminders about the reason for trave...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
 Now! The first thing to get down is research about music videos. Some music tends to have an intro story or something of that nature before the actual music starts to play while some others start right at the beginning. The music video for  Feels Like Summer  starts off with the music playing with the introduction. Overall, the video does not really carry a specific story but goes around small parts of other people's lives. Depending on the genre of the music video it might carry a different tone with the story. An example of this, in my opinion, is the music video for the song  MAPS  by Maroon 5 (Did not include the music video as it used explicit language) , I would feel would have carried a lighter tone but that was quickly washed away. Some song basically has the script embedded into itself. An example of this was a song called the locket  by atlas . I was not able to find a music video for this but by listening to it I could almost imagine how th...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Surprise surprise! A new project enters the fray! So for this project, I will again be working with the illustrious group compromising of Me, Myself, and I. Our previous project went well and we feel that we may be able to go farther than before. We also can cooperate fairly well and think very similarly which lets the whole process flow well and minimizes the need for a lot of speech because we are just conveniently really close with each other. The song I decided to choose was Feels Like Summer  by Childish Gambino  (or Donald Glover). The reason I chose this song is that right now I have been in my apartment and I haven't left since my school initially went into lockdown (minus throwing out the trash but it doesn't count alright) . And for this song, I want to be a bit more adventurous and get some outdoor air along with some interesting clips to cu- wait this is just an intro so that's confidential. It's also getting colder so at the same time it does not feel like ...

if {postCommercial == done} system.out.println(thoughts);

 Now that the commercial is done I would like to reflect on what I have done to get a better understanding of how I felt I did on the commercial. So overall, I felt like my commercial could fit like an ad on Youtube. With it being so short it would get the point across rather quickly that it is a controller for PC that can be used for some games. This commercial could be in the interest of someone that likes to play games on a computer because some games don't work well keyboard and that's when a controller could be a better option. Just like the problem the person in the commercial experienced this can also apply to other people. In my own opinion, I feel like this commercial in a way follows suit with commercials that basically present a common problem and provides their own product as a solution to it. The way the commercial engagement with the audience that would be in a way of telling a story. Startingnansitions off with a problem that was later solved by the product as th...

if {editing == done} {PostCommercial};

 And here is the grand reveal! I'm really proud of the outcome of this and it even makes me want to buy another controller. Overall this experience will help me with my goal to become an indie developer and with the proper equipment, I know that I would be able to produce something with much higher quality. Overall, I really enjoyed the process of creating this and rewatching it as it came into creation.

if (filming == done) {editing = start};

Image
 The recording has been done so the editing will not undertake its course! First and foremost, while putting the shots into order, I had to make sure that each scene lasted around 5 seconds. This was much more challenging than I thought because I had to make sure that each scene carried the full meaning that it was supposed to in the 30-second time frame. I ended up deciding to use the first couple of seconds to make an intro for the commercial using some pictures in order to have some context. A problem I ran into was that the music did not sync well with the shots so I started to clip some parts of the cut to get it to match up well. Through this process, I ended up using some pictures instead of video to get it to look better. I got the inspiration for this idea from a Youtube video based on a game that's about following the beat of the music and that idea implemented in a different game. I already had experience editing clips in order to properly get them to sync up from exper...

if (storyboard == done) {filming = start};

 As the storyboard has been finished and finalized it is now time to film! My main tool for filming was my phone and with some previous experience with using it to acquire shots, the process was more streamlined from recording them to dumping them onto my computer. I basically covered all the roles (which were two) so the main challenge was setting up the phone to get the right shot. I made use of a selfie-stick that was lying around in my home to get the phone to hold while I recorded the scene. The main thing I had to be careful of was making sure that the things that I wanted to shoot were in it and the things I didn't out of sight. So for most of the scene changes, I had to move things under the table in order to get them out of the way for a clean shot. For certain scenes that needed to computer to show I recorded some of me playing the game with the keyboard and with the controller and decided on taking a screenshot for both the win and lose screen to make it easier this was ...

Storyboard for my 8BitDo SN30Pro+ Controller commercial

Image
 YO MAN HOW CAN YOU POST THIS LA- Sorry for being off schedule! A certain person forgot to post the blog but luckily with the power of overtime the commercial will be on schedule! Scenes 1. In this scene we start with a shot that views the monitor, keyboard, and the hands of a player (me). The player then starts up a game but struggles because he is using a keyboard (applicable in some situations). The shot would be from a medium distance to give a good view of the keyboard the screen is not the main point but it would be a good idea to play an actual game that works better with a controller rather than a keyboard. 2. In this scene the person has lost the game and is then very sad the camera would then zoom in on the monitor with a slow panning motion to emphasize the cause of this very depressing event. And along with this if possible the shot to be split with another on the keyboard to show that there is a relation between the loss and keyboard. 3. In this scene the camera makes ...

Planning for my 8BitDo SN30Pro+ Controller

Image
Now, to get down to business, it's time to PLAN Props Since my group (again Me, Myself, and I) is planning on producing a commercial about a controller it's kind of obvious (I hope) that a controller is needed. Luckily I own an SN30 Pro+  which will be the main star of the commercial and it's in good condition. I also want to be able to show the controller in action so preferably I would also want to include a computer to maybe get some shots of a person (probably me) playing a game using it but keeping the controller focused and the screen blurred. Also, a monitor would be needed so I'll also use my monitor and maybe a large screen T.V. Costumes Causal clothes would be alright for costumes but still, it can't be too casual otherwise the overall image of the commercial would look bad (you can't have someone in their shorts and a t-shirt casually gaming, us gamers have class). For lower wear, something like khaki pants or jeans could work and for upper wear, a bl...

Research blog: Commercial

Image
My group, Me, Myself, and I, will be doing a commercial about a controller for games. The controller in question will be from 8BitDo which manufactures mods for classic controllers along with wireless and wired controllers. There are not really commercials of the 8BitDo that you would commonly find on T.V. or on the internet (at least for me) so from what I know of it some props that would be needed would be something to game on like a PC or console like the Switch. The people in the commercial would be holding the controller as it's the main star of the commercial. For music, I would think the music would be from whatever game is being played while the focus is on the controller. So with a variety of games, you would hear different sounds throughout the commercial. And as an alternative to this, it could be some music that would sound fast enough to not be boring but slow enough that it does not distract the watcher from the main point. The main sound would come from someone expla...

Hello World

Image
    If I had to choose one word to describe myself, it would undoubtedly be interesting. Is what I would want to say but being creative is one of the harder things for me to do so I would, in reality, probably go with inconsistent. Hopefully, with this blog, I'll be able to think a bit more flexibly and make something great. If you have not already viewed my profile (which would make part of this pointless...)  my name is Elijah and this is my blog about learning Java  for my media class. I have wanted to be an indie game designer and now as I'm in 11th grade I plan to attempt to make my first game soon. Honestly, for me, it's hard staying on topic or sticking to one thing because I start to just do other things and forget. And other times I would feel like what I wrote doesn't flow well off the tongue so this paragraph has probably been rewritten about three to four times. I've adjusted to a new sleep schedule due to the pandemic so my new 'normal' is kind ...
